Designing for Different Types of Email Audiences

When it comes to e-mail marketers you will find that they generally have a big list of recipients that they send one type of message to. In all actuality that one e-mail that is sent out by the marketer is being read in ten different ways. This is why we believe it is pretty important when it comes to designing that e-mail because it is going to be seen by a number of different people. This message will need to fit a number of different audience types that way you will not have to create a number of different messages because that can be very time consuming.

This problem can be solved by gaining a basic understanding of who is in the e-mail audience. When you gain a basic understanding of what type of people and moods are in the e-mail audience then you will be able to design a e-mail for them. You should know that there is eight types of audiences. The eight types of e-mail audiences are: Skimmers, identifiers, HTML readers, readers, mobile, desk, text readers, and also searchers.


When it comes to the identifiers you will find that they have one goal and that one goal is to check the subject line and e-mail to distinguish it apart from the other e-mails that are overcrowding their inboxes. For this such of audience you should know to focus on the subject line because this is what draws their attention. Normally the individuals who are the busiest fall into the identifier category.

The skimmers are known to open the e-mail and read past the address and subject line. The skimmers are known to read the headlines as fast as they can and they only notice the headlines, subheadings and also the calls of action. From there they will make the decision on if they will continue forwards.
